Maguire Peak Loop
Maguire Peaks loop

The trail head for the Maguire peaks loop is on Welch road. Still part of Sunol Regional Wilderness, it requires a permit to park on this road. Daily permits can be obtained at the main park entrance on Geary rd for a fee. Ask for a permit for Welch road at the entrance along with a park map.

Welch road is very narrow and only one lane wide in places.

There are two separate parking areas on Welch road one at mile 0.72 and one at mile 1.6. The trailhead at 0.72 miles is for the lower MacGuire peaks trail and the one at 1.6 miles is for the upper peaks trail.

Both trails intersect with the the MacGuire Peaks loop.

You can follow the loop in either direction.

Follow the MacGuire Peaks loop trail until you reach a bench facing WNW. There will be a small trail winding uphill. Follow this for 50 steps.

At this point the rocks on the left form a funnel--Look in the drain hole under some small rocks.
